Type species: Mecopoda maculata Serville (= Mecopoda elongata elongata )
Mecopoda spp. usually live on low bush and feed on leaves or flowers ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 AB). Females lay egg in deep soil with long and straight ovipositor ( Fig. 4C View FIGURE 4 ). M. elongata elongata and M. niponensis are common species in farm with open space in China, but they are rare under thick forest. Because of their large body size and very loud songs, it is not difficult to find and collect them.
