Luteithermobacter (Lu.te.i.ther.mo.bac’ter. L. masc. n. luteus yellowish; Gr. adj. thermos hot; N.L. masc. n. bacter a rod; N.L. masc. n. Luteithermobacter a rod-shaped yellowish thermophile).
Includes Gram-stain-negative, neutrophilic and thermophilic marine bacteria that grow under aerobic conditions. Cells are rod-shaped and form pale yellow colonies. The cell wall comprises fatty acids such as saturated forms with carbon number 14–16, unsaturated forms with carbon number 16–18, hydroxyl form with carbon number 14, and cyclic form with carbon number 19. The only respiratory quinone is Q-10, and the DNA G+C content is approximately 55 mol%. The type species is Luteithermobacter gelatinilyticus .
