Genus Annona ( Distant, 1884) View in CoL

Type species: Annona bimaculata Distant, 1884:297 . Subsequent designation by Kirkaldy, 1906:129. Annona : Carvalho & Schaffner 1977:247 (review); Ania Distant 1884:289 (new genus, name preoccupied); Anita Strand 1928:45 new name for Ania ); Schuh 2002 –2013 (online catalog).

Diagnosis. Eyes occupying the lateral side of the head, almost touching the pronotum and ventral gular region. Antennal segment I three times the length of the head. Pronotum deeply punctate and not strongly constricted on the apical half. A row of punctures on the claval vein and inner margin of embolium. Scutellum smooth, convex, and flattening at the apex, with long, erect setae.

Remarks. Carvalho and Schaffner (1977) review the genus Annona , including synonymies, diagnosis, descriptions, measurements, discussion, geographic distributions, male genitalia, ostiolar peritreme, dorsal habitus illustrations, and a key to nine known species.
