Type species: Leptopsaltria apicalis Matsumura, 1907 ( Formosa) .

Redescription

Head including compound eyes slightly wider than anterior margin of mesonotum ( Figure 12 View Figure 12 ). Vertex very long, with anterior end situated beyond level of anterior margin of eyes. Postclypeus much swollen. Distance between lateral ocelli and compound eyes narrower than twice the distance between two lateral ocelli. Inner area of pronotum generally the same colour as the pronotal collar. Anterolateral pronotal collar slightly developed and dentate. Wings hyaline. Basal vein of apical cell 1 of forewing more than three-quarters as long as longitudinal vein of apical cell 1. Apical cell 5 about three times as long as wide. Apical cell 6 of forewing shorter than twice the apical cell 5 in median length. Male opercula small, scale-like, triangular with obtuse tip, wide and short, apart from each other, and slightly passing posterior margin of sternite II. Male abdomen about as long as or longer than distance from head to cruciform elevation. Tergite 3 about as wide as base of mesonotum. Timbal cover about as wide at base as long. Timbal concealed with timbal cover in dorsal view, but exposed laterally. Male abdominal sternites III and IV each with a pair of tubercles. Ovipositor hardly protruding beyond pygofer. Male pygofer spherical ( Figure 10A View Figure 10 ). Basal lobes of pygofer with roundish tip. Uncus short, undivided, tapering to a narrow tip. Dorsal beak distinct.

Purana abdominalis species group

The two new species described here are similar to F. apicalis in having non-prominent basal lobes of pygofer ( Figures 3A View Figure 3 , 6A View Figure 6 ), but they are distinguished by the following characteristics: male abdomen considerably long, much longer than distance from head to cruciform elevation ( Figures 1A View Figure 1 , 4A View Figure 4 ); male pygofer oval ( Figures 3A View Figure 3 , 6A View Figure 6 ); uncus with a widely truncate apex in ventral view ( Figures 3A View Figure 3 , 6A View Figure 6 ). I propose here a new species group, the Purana abdominalis species group, for the two species: P. abdominalis and P. nana .

The grouping of species discussed above is summarized in Table 2 and the key shown below.
