Type:—not designated.

Eponymy:— The specific epithet is dedicated to Hugo Wilhelm Conwentz (1855—1922), famous German (Prussian) palaeobotanist.

Stratigraphy:— Upper Eocene.

Status:— Fruits.

Note:— Although the fossil name Polygonum convolvuloides Conwentz is correct in the genus Polygonum , since it has a priority over extant P. convolvuloides Brügger (1886a: 102) [see details below], its combination in Fallopia , F. convolvuloides (Conwentz) Arbuzova (2006: 28) , was illegitimate due to the existence of the earlier extant Fallopia ×convolvuloides ( Degen & al. 1924: 78) Holub (1971: 176). Therefore, a replacement name is necessary for the fossil P. convolvuloides Conwentz when it is treated as Fallopia . Original fossil materials of Conwentz were possibly destroyed in World War II, new materials were not found.
