Basionym:— Polygonum leporimontanum Kirchheimer (1942: 432) .

Type:— GERMANY. Saxony, Wiesa near Kamenz, Kirchheimer in 1942 s.n. (Senckenberg Naturhistorische Sammlungen Dresden, n.v. [lost in World War II?], figured by Kirchheimer l.c.: fig. 9).

Stratigraphy:— Lower Miocene (Burdigalian).

Status:— Fruits.

Note:— The fossil Polygonum leporimontanum Kirchheimer (1942: 432) is the only European representative of Reynoutria , which was described on the basis of the fossil fruits widespread in the European Miocene sediments ( Mai 1964: 25; Palamarev 1994: 27). A new combination is here proposed.
