Type material

Holotype. One male ( IESNU), China, Xianggelila , Yunnan province, 27 ◦ N, 99 ◦ E, altitude 3300 m, 1 July 2006, M.F. Wang. GoogleMaps

Paratypes. Twenty-three males ( IESNU), same data as holotype GoogleMaps .

Etymology

The name of this species is based on surstyli spoon-shaped in profile, together with the Greek word kytos plus surstyli.

Distribution

China, Yunnan Province, Xianggelila.

Remarks

The new species is similar to H. huae Xue, 2001 , but differs from it as follows: mid tibia with five or six ad in apical two-fifths and six pd, two or three long and strong, about about two-fifths of tibial diameter; all tergites without middle stripe, tergite 5 with small lateral patches, cerci and surstylus brown mostly.

Description (based on holotype)

Male. Body length 6.0 mm.

Colour: Frontal vitta black, fronto-orbital plate and parafacial covered with light grey pruinosity, antenna black, lunule brown, genal and postgenal hairs black, palpus black. Thorax black in ground-colour, covered with grey to brown pruinosity. Wing hyaline, veins brown, basicosta dark black, calypters light yellowish, haltere yellow. Legs all black. Abdomen ground-colour black, covered with dense grey yellow pruinosity, tergites 3 to 5 with a pair of black spots, sternite 5 dark brown; cerci and surstylus mostly brown.

Head: Eye bare; frons about 2.5 times as wide as the distance between posterior ocelli, frontal vitta about 1.5–2.0 times as wide as fronto-orbital plate, six pairs of frontal setae on lower three-fifths of frons, without ors; ocellar seta about twice as long as broad, parafacial subequal with postpedicel in width; postpedicel about twice as long as broad, arista long plumose, the longest aristal hairs subequal with postpedicel; vibrissal angle situated behind frontal angle in profile; anterior margin of gena with one row of upcurved subvibrissal setulae; genal height about two-ninths of eye height; prementum shining, prementum about twice as long as broad, palpus longer than prementum.

Thorax: Scutum with four black vittae, the inner vitta reaching scutoscutellar suture; four rows of long seta-like prst-acr, dc 2+3, ial 0+2, pra hair-like, notopleuron, lateral margin and lower surface of scutellum, basisternum of prosternum, anepimeron, katepimeron and meron all bare; katepisternal setae 2+2.

Wing: Costal spine long and strong, subequal with cross-vein r-m in length, r-m and dm-cu cross-vein not clouded, Sc curved as arc-shaped, radial node bare, dm-cu cross-vein curved inflexed; lower calypter ligule-shaped.

Legs: Fore tibia without median pv; mid-femur with seta-like av, with one a and three pd basally, with complete pv row, on basal part, which become short apically; mid-tibia with five or six ad in apical two-fifths and six pd, two or three long and strong, about two-fifths of tibial diameter; hind femur with complete av row, sparse, without pv; hind tibia with three av, three ad, apically with one or two short thin pd, in the middle with three or four setae, without pv; all tarsi longer than tibiae in length, claws and pulvilli long, shorter than fifth tarsomere in length.

Abdomen: Cone-shaped in dorsal view, without shifting patches, all tergites without middle stripe, tergite 5 with small lateral patches, tergites 7 to 9 setae fringe-shaped; sternite 1 bare.
