Type material

Etymology

The name of this species is based on sternite 5 in the middle of the male having two pairs of spinous setae, linking the Latin words spinus plus abdomen.

Distribution

China, Yunnan Province, Mount Gaoligong.

Remarks

The new species is similar to H. huae Xue, 2001 , but differs from the latter as follows: prementum about twice as long as broad, pra hair-like; mid-femur without av; midtibia with ad row apically and one or two long; hind tibia with three av; the sternite 5 in the middle of the male with two pairs of spinous setae.

Description (based on holotype)

Male. Body length 5.0 mm.

Colour: Frontal vitta black, parafacial, fronto-orbital plate and gena covered with light grey pruinosity, antenna black, genal and postgenal hairs black, palpus black. Thorax black in ground-colour, with dense brown pruinosity, scutellum black in ground-colour. Wing hyaline, veins brown, calypters light yellowish, haltere yellow. Legs all black. Abdomen ground-colour black, with dense brown pruinosity, tergites 3 to 5 with a pair of black spots.

Head: Eye bare; frons subequal with or narrower than the distance between posterior ocelli in width, frontal vitta about 1.5–2.0 times as wide as fronto-orbital plate, seven or eight pairs of frontal setae on lower two-thirds of frons, without ors; parafacial subequal with or broader than postpedicel in width; postpedicel about 2.5 times as long as broad, arista long plumose, the longest aristal hairs about 1.2 times as wide as the postpedicel; lower facial margin not projecting, vibrissal angle situated behind frontal angle in profile; genal height about one-quarter of eye height, anterior margin of gena with one or two rows of upcurved subvibrissal setulae; proboscis short, prementum about twice as long as broad, palpus longer than prementum.

Thorax: Scutum with four broad vittae, the middle pruinose vitta about 1.5 times as wide as inner vitta, the inner vitta reaching scutoscutellar suture; acr 0+1, dc 2+3, ial 0+2, pra hair-like, notopleuron, lateral margin and lower surface of scutellum, prosternum, meron and katepimeron all bare; katepisternal setae 2+2.

Wing: Costal spine long and strong, subequal with or longer than cross-vein r-m in length, Sc curved as arc-shaped, r-m and dm-cu cross-vein sometimes clouded.

Legs: Fore tibia without median p; mid-femur without av, with three or four pv only strong in basal part, mid-tibia with three p and only two strong in the lower part, about half of it long, mid-tibia with ad row apically and one or two long; hind femur with sparse av row, without pv, hind tibia with three av, three ad, with one pd sub-basally, behind the middle with a row of setae; all tarsi longer than tibiae in length, claws and pulvilli developed.

Abdomen: Cone-shaped in dorsal view, tergite 5 with one middle stripe, syntergite 7+8 with long fringe, sternite 1 bare.
