Male. Head. Antenna brown; 2 ocellar setae; vertex black, golden tomentose; face golden tomentose; face with 10 brown mystacal macrosetae; frons brown; palpus brownish setose; proboscis dark brown with white and yellowish setae ventrally; labial setae yellow-brown; occiput black-gray tomentose; occipital setae whitish and yellowish; 5 postocular macrosetae.

Thorax. Mesonotum black; one portion of the scutellum golden-grayish tomentose; sutural spot, prescutellar spot and postalar spot golden-grayish; pleuron black, gray tomentose. Macrosetae/setae thorax: antepronotum with 4 yellow macrosetae; 2 notopleural macrosetae; 2 supralar macrosetae (1 thick and long, the other thinner and 2/3 as long as first); 2 postalar macrosetae (1 thin and 1/2 as long as other); 6 pairs of long dorsocentral macrosetae; discal scutellar setae yellowish; 2 black apical scutellar macrosetae; metanepisternal and katatergal macrosetae yellowish.

Wing. Wing without costal dilation; crossvein r-m at middle of cell d; R4+5 at apex of cell d. Halter yellow.

Legs. Hind femur swollen; fore and middle femora brown anteriorly and yellowish posteriorly and ventrally; hind femur with basal 1/2 yellow to yellow-brown and apical 1/2 brown; fore tibia yellowish; middle tibia mostly yellowish with narrow apex brown; hind tibia with basal 1/2 yellowish and apical 1/2 brownish; fore and middle tarsi with basal 2/3 of first tarsomere yellowish, apical 1/3 brownish; hind tarsus with first tarsomere brownish. Macrosetae/setae legs: hind trochanter yellow setose; fore femur yellow setose ventrally; middle femur with preapical posterodorsal seta brown and only yellow setae ventrally; hind femur with 2 anterior macrosetae and 1 anterodorsal black, 7–8 macrosetae anteroventrally, 1 basal and 1 apical macroseta posteroventrally; hind tibia with apical spur-like macroseta; right fore tarsus with 1 yellow macroseta.

Abdomen. Tergites and sternites dark brown.

Cercus truncate ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ); epandrium with 3 teeth in ventral view ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ); hypandrium with triangular posterior margin ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ); median portion of gonocoxite with macrosetae ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ); medioapical portion of subepandrial sclerite with setae ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ); ejaculatory apodeme with basal 1/3 moderately wide and apical 2/3 narrow in lateral view ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ); phallus with anterodorsal portion slightly sclerotized ( Figs. 45, 47 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ). Ventral margin of phallus with 1 pointed projection basally, 1 median rounded projection, and preapical projection curved back in lateral view ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ). Phallus 3.7 times longer than greatest width of ejaculatory apodeme in lateral view ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ); basal portion of gonostylus truncate, apex prominent ( Fig. 46 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ). Gonostylus 3.1 times longer than its greatest width in lateral view ( Fig. 46 View FIGURES 41 – 47 ).

Size. Body length 11.4 mm; wing length 8.5 mm.

Holotype condition. Right apical scutellar macroseta lost; 1 right dorsocentral macroseta and right middle leg lost.

Female. Unknown.

Variation. The following variation was observed in the paratype specimens: 7–8 brown mystacal macrosetae; 6 postocular macrosetae; postalar spot golden; 1–3 supralar macrosetae; pleura brown-reddish sparsely gray tomentose; crossvein r-m slightly beyond the middle of cell d; stem of halter yellow to brown; ventral portion of middle femur with 1 black seta ventrally; hind femur posteroventrally with 2 apical macrosetae; first tarsomere on middle tarsus brown, black on hind tarsus; body length 10.3–13.2 mm, wing 8– 8.9 mm.

Etymology. The name trifidus refers to the apex of epandrium.

Geographical records. Brazil: Pará State and Bahia State.

Type material examined. Holotype: Pará, Bujaru, 12.v.1978 / BRASIL, Pará, I.S. Gorayeb [Collector] / Holótipo Ommatius trifidus Vieira, Bravo & Rafael (3 MPEG).
