Ommatius ruficaudus Curran, 1928
Comments. It was not possible to study the type material of O.ruficaudus deposited in the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). Curran's description was based on the male holotype and female paratype, but the terminalia were not illustrated. Scarbrough (2008) reviewed the type material and verified that the holotype terminalia were partially damaged and the female's body was covered with fungi. O. ruficaudus is similar to O. pulcher but can be separated by the characters in the key presented below.
According to Curran (1928), the label of the type material has only the following information: “Chapada” and he added the following data “Williston Collection”. The Chapada possibly refers to the Chapada dos Guimarães in Mato Grosso State, Brazil. Even with the passage of time, the Chapada dos Guimarães has remained one of the most famous type localities ( Papavero & Ibañez-Bernal 2003).
