Apotomorhamphus splendens Faust View in CoL
Apotomorhamphus splendens Faust, 1897: 264–265 View in CoL . Type locality: SW Sulawesi, Mt. Bawakaraeng .
Description. Lectotype ( Fig. 5a View FIGURE 5 ). Length. Pronotum plus elytron 2.97 mm. Integument uniformly covered with appressed, broad scales of green iridescent color; with sparse elongate subrecumbent scales interspersed. Article 2 of antennal funicle 1.3 X longer than article 1. Pronotum sparsely punctate, hardly granulate. Elytral intervals with sparse suberect bristles, at best visible in profile. Genitalia. Penis ( Fig. 5b View FIGURE 5 ). Intraspecific variation. Length. Pronotum plus elytron 2.97–4.08 mm. Pronotum with or without sparse granules between scales. Elytral intervals with or without rows of indistinct granules.
Material examined. Type specimens. Lectotype, by present designation, male: INDONESIA, S-Sulawesi: “Bua-Kraeng” [= Mt. Bawakaraeng]; labels ( Fig. 5c View FIGURE 5 ); condition: left mid-leg broken and missing; genitalia in glycerol in microtube; DNA extraction ARC4019 View Materials (GenBank # OR557436) ( SMTD) . Paralectotype, male, same data as lectotype; dissected and partly broken, presumably by K. Günther; the extracted anterior portion of the penis is glued to a card; here identified as A. sarasini Faust. Other material examined: 2 exx, Mt. Lompobattang , 3000´, III-1896, H. Fruhstorfer ( SMTD); 1 ex, Pic v. Bonthain, Drs. Sarasin; 1 ex, Mt. Bawakaraeng, 5000´, II-1896, H. Fruhstorfer ( SMTD); 8 exx, Malino, Gn. Lompobattang, 1800 m, E 119° 53.517´S 05° 17.833´, 13–14-VII-2001 ( SMNS) GoogleMaps .
Notes. The original description ( Faust, 1897) refers to one couple (“ein Pärchen”), and no holotype is designated. The syntypes were examined and both of them were found to be males belonging to different species. A lectotype is designated to ensure stability of nomenclature. The paralectotype is here assigned to A. sarasini Faust. “Loka”, the second species´ type locality is near Mt. Bawakaraeng. Günther (1943) obviously included some specimens of A. sarasini Faust in his description of this species.
