Apiezonotus Heller View in CoL
Apiezonotus Heller, 1941: 153–154 View in CoL .
Aulacophrys Marshall, 1956: 86 View in CoL ; syn. n.
Type species: Piezonotus albosignatus Heller, 1935 View in CoL , by original designation.
Notes. Heller (1935) described the type species as “ Piezonotus View in CoL (?) albosignatus View in CoL ” and later placed it in his new genus Apiezonotus ( Heller, 1941) View in CoL . Marshall (1956) acknowledged that Apiezonotus Heller View in CoL was only known to him from the original description. At the time, the collection of the SMTD was not accessible. Based on a recent examination of Faust´s types it became obvious that it is a senior synonym of Aulacophrys Marshall. View in CoL There are a number of Apiezonotus species at hand from the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, which should be revised in a dedicated study. The converging carinae of the head are more or less distinct; this character occurs also in some species of Javaulius Marshall. View in CoL The conical head lacking a constriction behind the eyes and a patch of scales at the sides of the rostral base may be better diagnostic characters of this genus.
