Material. Holotype: Turkey: Bayburt, Yoncali , 2725 m, 40º27´N, 40º24E, 30.vii.1981 (CD: -68), leg. Kazanci, coll. Sipahiler. GoogleMaps Paratypes: Same data as holotype, 1 male, 2 females GoogleMaps .

General description. As for L. bipunctatus except antennae, maxillary palps, legs pale brown, forewings brown, rather narrow, pterostigma darker, post-costal area somewhat spotted ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 ); length of each anterior wing of male 10 mm, of female 11–12 mm (n = 2).

Male genitalia ( Figs 16–19 View FIGURES 16–19 ). Transverse spinulose zone of tergite VIII large, in dorsal view 3/5 as long as broad, posteromesal edge slightly convex, rounded on sides. In lateral view, segment IX 5 times longer at mid-height than ventral length. Inferior appendages long and about as broad as lateral regions of segment IX, rounded apicodorsally; preanal appendages broadly oval, nearly 2/3 as tall as long, each with posterior apex pointed. Intermediate appendages slightly longer than preanal appendages, in lateral view twice as long as basal height, directed dorsad, subdistal portion broad with apex pointed and curved anterad; in dorsal view nearly parallel, subdistal parts curved laterad. Thick and setose distal portion of each paramere short, only about as long as thickened apex of phallicata. Laterally at base two long setae found; apical end of paramere with four long setae; inner surface with sparsely shorter setae; ventral edge with ten setae.

Female genitalia ( Figs 20–22 View FIGURES 20–22 ). In dorsal view, posterior edge of tergite IX rounded, tubular pieces half as long as side lobes, triangular. In lateral view, digitate side lobes of segment X narrowly triangular. In ventral view, median lobe of vulvar scale nearly triangular, its base 3/4 as broad as its length.

Remarks. Limnephilus bayburt sp. n. resembles L. malickyi Sipahiler 1992 . Limnephilus malickyi is found in southern Turkey, isolated on the summit of Aladağlar Mountains at 3200 m. It is a brachypterous species, such that the female has short wings and the male has rather short and apically rounded wings, but L. bayburt sp. n. has normal wings. The other main differences are in the male genitalia as follows: In L. malickyi the spinulose zone of tergite VIII is 4 times broader than long (versus 1.7 times as broad as long in L. bayburt sp. n.) and covered with spines that are more dense than on L. bayburt sp. n.; segment IX in lateral view is broader (longitudinally longer) than the inferior appendages but only about as broad (long) as the inferior appendages in the new species; in L. malickyi the intermediate appendages are larger in lateral view and in caudal view the ventromesal parts are as broad as long, but in L. bayburt sp. n. the intermediate appendages are smaller in lateral view and in caudal view the ventral parts are much more slender. The differences of the female genitalia are as follows: In L. bayburt sp. n. the posterior edge of tergite IX is rounded, but it is trapezoidal in L. malickyi ; in dorsal view, the tubular pieces of the new species are somewhat longer than in L. malickyi ; in lateral view, the side lobes of L. bayburt sp. n. are slenderer than those of L. malickyi .
