Echinicerya Morrison View in CoL
Echinicerya Morrison, 1930: 17 View in CoL . Type species: Echinicerya anomala Morrison. View in CoL
The monotypic genus Echinicerya View in CoL was excluded from the recent phylogenetic study of the tribe due to unavailability of fresh material ( Unruh & Gullan, 2008). However, its status as a distinct genus was not questioned due to its unique morphological features. The Guatemalan species E. anomala View in CoL is the only iceryine with 30–40 cicatrices forming up to two semi-circles on the ventral abdomen. The spiniform setae covering the dorsal surface resemble the robust setae of C. mexicana View in CoL , but the setae are longer and the setal bases are more visible in C. mexicana View in CoL . As this is a monotypic genus, we do not provide separate generic and species diagnoses. Refer to Unruh & Gullan (2008) for detailed descriptions of the species and genus.
