Type Locality: N Ethiopia, Simien, 3300 m.
Vernacular Names: Ethiopian Striped Mouse.
Synonyms: Muriculus chilaloensis Osgood 1936 .
Distribution: Endemic to mountains of Ethiopia on both sides of the Rift Valley, 1900-3400 m ( Rupp, 1980).
Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.
Discussion: Member of a unique rodent fauna endemic to high mountains of Ethiopia. Osgood (1936) described chilaloensis as a subspecies of M. imberbis . Yalden and Largen (1992) reviewed the species as an Ethiopian endemic, which is infrequently encountered by collectors ( Yalden et al., 1996).
