Chinese name: 变Ṅḧ瓢•

Pseudoscymnus hareja: Ren et al., 2009: 62 [nec. Weise, 1879].

Diagnosis. This species is very distinctive by its elytra with variable markings, elongate penis guide, and penis with a deep emargination at apex ( Figs 37a–f, 37i View FIGURE 37 ).

Description. TL: 1.40–2.11 mm, TW: 0.93–1.60 mm, TH: 0.59–0.98 mm.

Body oval, moderately convex, surfaces covered with short pubescence ( Figs 37a–f View FIGURE 37 ). Head yellowish brown with interocular distance distinctly greater than eye width in frontal view. Pronotum yellow sometimes with a large black spot. Scutellar shield black. Elytron with characteristic yellow and black pattern. Ventral surfaces yellow to black. Legs yellow. Abdominal postcoxal lines incomplete, slightly recurved toward the base of ventrite ( Fig. 37g View FIGURE 37 ).

Male genitalia: Penis stout, penis capsule with stout outer arm and long inner one, apex of penis with a deep emargination and membranous appendage ( Figs 37h–i View FIGURE 37 ). Penis guide with prominent keel at base in lateral view, then tapering towards pointed apex; parameres about 1/2 as long as penis guide, with a tuft of long setae at apex; penis guide approximately parallel sided for basal 1/ 3 in ventral view, apically rounded ( Figs 37j–k View FIGURE 37 ).

Female genitalia: Coxites elongate, triangular; styli well developed with terminal setae; spermatheca distinctly curved, with basal ramus and elongate nodulus.

Distribution. China (Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Taiwan).

Remarks. This species varies in elytral patterns. The specimens from Taiwan have black elytra with yellow apices, and each elytron have a yellow spot on medially; most specimens from Yunnan have yellow pronotum bearing with a large black spot, and have yellow elytra bearing with characteristic black pattern as show in Figure 37d View FIGURE 37 ; other specimens usually have pattern like Figure 37a.
