Pseudoscymnus hamatus Yu et al., 1993: 472 (type locality: Chebaling National Nature Reserve, Guangdong, China).— Pang et al. 2004: 87; Kovář 2007: 582.
Diagnosis. This species is similar to S. kuriharai Kitano, 2012 in structures of the male genitalia, but can be distinguished from the later by its pronotum yellowish brown, sometimes with a black spot at base (Figs 51a–b). In S. kuriharai , pronotum is black with anterior margin narrowly yellowish brown (Figs 52a–b).
Description. TL: 1.56–2.09 mm, TW: 1.17–1.54 mm, TH: 0.71–0.93 mm.
Body oval, moderately convex, surfaces covered with short pubescence (Figs 51a–c). Head yellowish brown, with interocular distance distinctly closer than eye width in frontal view. Pronotum yellowish brown, sometimes with a black spot at base. Scutellar shield black. Elytra black with brown apices. Ventral surfaces yellowish brown to black. Legs yellowish brown. Abdominal postcoxal lines incomplete, recurved toward the base of ventrite (Fig. 51d).
Male genitalia: Penis slender, penis capsule with long inner arm but without outer one, apex of penis pointed (Figs 51e–f). Penis guide apically hook-shaped in lateral view; parameres about 1/4 as long as penis guide, with a tuft of long setae at apex; penis guide approximately parallel sided for basal 5/ 6 in ventral view, then gradually narrowing to blunt apex (Figs 51g –h).
Female genitalia: Coxites shortened; styli absent; spermatheca worm-like, with basal ramus and nodulus.
