Diagnosis. A small to medium sized, slender turriform species with weak sculpture, bulging whorls (deep suture) and very thin apertural margin.
Description. Shell yellowish-greenish, very slender turriform, widest at its base; the 7.25–8.25 (n=4), very much bulging whorls are separated by deep suture; protoconch consists of 2 whorls, first half whorl is very finely granulated, glossy; the remaining whorls are very finely, regularly ribbed; teleoconch also finely, regularly ribbed without spiral lines; ribs very low, they become less regular on the last half whorl; aperture rounded with very slightly angled columellar-parietal transition and slightly more sharply angled parietal-palatal transition; apertural rim whitish, slightly thickened and usually not, or very slightly reflexed; it consists of a slimmer inner and a wider outer circle; the boundary between them is hardly visible.
Measurements (in mm). H: 7.9–10.4, D: 3.6–4.1 (NHMUK 1906.5.5.9, n=3).
Differential diagnosis. Pseudopomatias peguensis has deeper suture and more bulging whorls than any other Pseudopomatias species. The most similar species in size, shell shape and morphology of the apertural lip is P. amoenus which has a shallower suture and stronger ribs.
Type material. According to Dance (1986) some shells of Theobald’s material is in the NHM, the Indian Museum, and Cambridge Museum, a few types in Cardiff Museum (excoll Fedden). We contacted these museums (except Indian Museum) but we were unable to locate the type specimens.
Museum material. Pegu, Burmah, Fedden collection, NMW.1894.015/6; no locality, coll. Godwin-Austen, NHMUK 20130403/1; Gwah Hill, Pegu, Burma, E.R. Sykes coll, Acc. no. 1825, NHMUK 20130404/2; Gwah Hill, NHMUK 1888.124.331–4/4; Gwa, Arakan, W. Blanford coll, NHMUK 1906.5.5.9/7.
Distribution ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ): The type locality of the species is Pegu (=Bago, Myanmar). Blanford (1864) mentioned Theobald’s new species from Arakan, and later, Nevill (1878) and Möllendorff (1886) marked "Mai, Sandoway". Both the Arakan Mts (Rakhin State) and Sandoway are located in western Myanmar, whereas Bago Province lies eastwards. See also Table 3 View TABLE 3 .
