Vitex schaueriana is endemic to Brazil and distributed in the Northeast Region, where it occurs in the Caatinga, Cerrado and Atlantic Forest, and was known for the states of Bahia , Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, and Piauí ( BFG 2015). In RN, the populations of this species are known only from areas of the Caatinga above 400 m elevation. These populations were recorded outside of protected areas and in one of these there is mining activity that endangers the species.
