scientific name

Selfcoelum theophili
status

comb. nov.

S. theophili ( Dollfus, 1948) n. comb.

Type host. Greater flamingo, Phoenicopterus ruber Linnaeus ( Phoenicopteriformes : Phoenicopteridae ).

Type locality. Vicinity of Casablanca, Morocco.

Remarks. This species was originally described as Cyclocoelum (Cyclocoelum) theophili Dollfus, 1948 . It has the genital pore located about the mid-level of the pharynx (postpharyngeal). Figure 7 View FIGURES 5 – 9 of Dollfus (1948) appears to represent a contracted specimen where the placement of the genital pore likely appears more anterior than normal. The vitelline fields are not confluent posteriorly, placing this species in Selfcoelum . Dollfus (1948) described the oral sucker as a “Mouth opening at the anterior end of the body; the buccal funnel is surrounded by muscle and glandular tissue, but there is no bounded oral sucker” and he described the ventral sucker as a “well-formed, globular acetabulum with narrow cavity and deep opening oriented in the anterior direction of body”.
