Description. Adult ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–6 ) wingspan 13.0–15.0 mm.
Head vertex densely covered with brown to dark brown hairs. Frons smoothly yellow-white, with white rough scales and hairs near vertex. Antenna filiform, longer than forewing, ventral surface pale yellow, dorsal surface: scape inflated, white, tinged with pale yellowish brown, pecten yellowish brown; flagellum with basal 1/2 fuscous, pale yellow and fuscous alternated from beyond middle to distal 1/4, distal 1/4 being pale yellow. Labial palpus slightly upcurved, second segment with basal 3/4 fuscous, distal 1/4 white but fuscous ventrally; terminal segment slightly shorter than second, apex acute, white.
Thorax and tegula yellowish brown. Forewing elongate, greyish brown, with golden luster; apex obviously prominent, white ringed black margin; a broad greyish white band from base along fold to middle of termen interrupted by short transverse white streak at 2/7 of wing-length, posteriorly with two pale yellow wedge-shaped stripes inward obliqued situated at basal 1/3 and distal 4/9 respectively; fold basal 1/3 beneath pale yellowish brown; two rows fringes grey, white near apex, overlapped, shorter one appears darker. Hindwing and fringe pale grey. Fore and mid legs with coxae and femora dark brown dorsally, pale yellow ventrally; foreleg with tibia and tarsus dark brown on dorsal surface, yellowish brown on ventral surface, each segment of tarsus ringed white basally; midleg with tibia dark brown on outer surface, pale yellow on inner surface, tarsus dark brown on dorsal surface, yellowish brown on ventral surface, basally with white ring each segment; hindleg with femur and tibia pale yellow, scattered with sparse grey scales on outer surface, tibia densely covered with pale cream hairs both on dorsal and ventral surfaces, tarsus dark brown on outer surface, ringed with white ring each segment basally, inner surface white.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7–10 ). Uncus widened triangle, basally with two concaves on each lateral side respectively, apically narrowed, caudal margin deeply concaved medially, bilobed. Gnathos consisting of two slender two-way bended arms, apically united with a circular plate. Tegumen with both sides parallel, caudal margin arched. Valva basal 2/3 parallel, distal 1/3 slightly broadened to quadrate, setose; sacculus narrow, about 1/3 length of valva. Saccus thin and short, cylindrical, about 1/5 length of valva. Aedeagus slender and straight, nearly as long as valva, basal 1/8 slightly inflated, apex truncated.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 11–15 ). Papillae anales quadrate, setose. Apophyses anteriores almost as long as apophyses posteriores, basal half inflated to scalene triangle. Eighth tergite nearly quadrate, anterior margin incurved in broad “V” shape, posterior margin almost straight; eighth sternite with same shape as eighth tergite. Ostium bursae rounded, situate at anterior margin of eighth sternite medially. Antrum narrow, rectangle, as long as eighth sternite approximately, densely with granules on inner surface. Ductus bursae extremely long and slender, more than ten times length of eighth sternite, both anterior and posterior 1/6 appear wider. Corpus bursae ellipse. Signum weakly sclerotized, irregular triangle, bearing serrate longitudinal ridge, placed at boundary of ductus bursae and corpus bursae.
Diagnosis. This species is extremely similar to A. inthanonenesis both in appearance and male genitalia. Agriothera quadrativalva sp. nov. can be separated by the forewing costal margin without white line, the ventral margin and termen of valva without hook-like hairs in the male genitalia. In A. inthanonenesis , the forewing costal margin is decorated with a white line, the ventral margin and termen of valva possess hook-like hairs in the male genitalia. This species is also similar to Agriothera microtricha sp. nov. in appearance, but they are distinguished from each other by the characters of female genitalia.
Distribution. China (Xizang [Tibet], Yunnan).
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin prefix quadrat -, meaning quadrate, and the Valva, referring to the shape of distal 1/3 of valva.
