Current name: Aster lateriflorus (L.) Britton var. lateriflorus View in CoL ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Gray (in Proc. Amer. Acad. Arts 17: 178. 1882) discussed the identity of 998.9 (LINN), which is Aster diffusus Ait. , but did not designate a type. Wiegand (in Rhodora 30: 177. 1928) noted merely that this was based on a Kalm specimen (apparently from the protologue), and Hoffmann (in Feddes Repert. 107: 183. 1996) indicated 998.6 and 998.7 (LINN) as possible type elements. However, the name currently appears to be untypified.
