16. * Temanonegia dominicana ( Gates, 1957)
Nematogenia dominicana Gates, 1957: 433–436 . Reynolds & Reynolds 2001: 18. Reynolds & Reynolds 2004a: 15. Temanonegia dominicana — Fragoso et al. 1995: 114 (table). Reynolds & Reynolds 2001: 18. Fragoso & Brown 2007: 69 (table).
Rodrígez et al. 2007: 96. Betancourt Fernández et al. 2015: 6–3.
Locus typicus. “ San Cristobal, Santo Domingo.”
Distribution. Dominican Republic ( Fragoso et al. 1995; Fragoso & Brown 2007; Rodríguez et al. 2007); DO, San Cristóbal Province, San Cristóbal Municipality, San Cristóbal (Site 18, Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) ( Gates 1957).
Remarks. This species is only known from its type locality. Reynolds & Reynolds (2001), in their review of the Hispaniolan earthworms, provided an interpretation of the type locality for T. dominicana . This new locality corresponded to “ Santo Domingo (Distrito Nacional),” which seems to be erronous as Gates (1957) specified that the type material, on which the original description of the species was based, came from “ San Cristobal, Santo Domingo.” It is very likely that the original label referenced by Gates (1957) was refering to San Cristóbal City, which was anexed to Santo Domingo province by 1930 (year when the type material was collected), from the Dominican Republic. In 1935 the province San Cristóbal was established, and based on this we assume that the type locality of T. dominicana refers to the western mountainous areas of San Cristóbal City, capital of the San Cristóbal province.
