Gastroserica Brenske, 1897: 412 ; Niijima & Kinoshita, 1923: 36; Nomura 1973a: 18, 1973b: 119; Ahrens 2000, 2002, 2006a:
231, 2007b: 14; Ahrens & Pacholátko, 2003: 2, 2007: 137; Ahrens & Bezděk 2016: 285; Liu et al. 2011; 2014; Kobayashi, 2015: 27 (type species: Serica marginalis Brenske, 1894 ; by subsequent designation (Nomura 1973)).
Remarks. The species of the genus were revised in detail by Ahrens 2000, with subsequent additions of Ahrens (2002), Ahrens & Pacholátko (2003, 2007), Liu et al. (2011, 2014), and Kobayashi (2015). Based on previous evidence from a molecular phylogeny ( Eberle et al. 2017) and this new comprehensive morphological and taxonomical revision, a part of the species so far assigned to the genus Microserica Brenske, 1894 , have to be classified as Gastroserica , although key characters of this genus are not present (see below).
