Diagnosis. This is the smallest of the large humped species with male metaventral protuberance. It is less cuneate than the others and connects to the more ovate, medium-sized species, such as C. plagiatus .
Description. Total length 4.3–4.9, width 2.3–2.6 mm (n=4); integument black, antenna, tibia, tarsus and elytron dark reddish brown; body elongate rhomboidal, sides of pronotum and elytra for most parts gradually converging, pronotum moderately vaulted, distinctly vermiculate on disc and shallowly punctate on flank, elytron with slight basal tumidity, interstriae ridged, male metaventral protuberances with anterior edge strongly produced and deeply cleft by discrimen, male ventrites 1, 2, 5 and metaventrite with erect squamulae; all femora with secondary denticles but barely perceptible on fore leg; male genitalia as Fig. 16 View FIGURES 16–25 , endophallus with moderately long, inflexible flagellum.
Material examined. Holotype male, labeled “ French Guiana, Amazone Nature Lodge , Kaw Rd. 6, VIII/11- 23/2017, Morris & Wappes”, “ 4.550330, 52.170310, beating vegetation” ( CMNC) GoogleMaps . Paratypes (2 males, 1 female): Venezuela, Bolivar, El Pauchi near Santa Elena, 1.i.1995, G. Hillert ( JPPC).
Additional material. Brazil, Pôrto Platon (Amapá), 1 male ( USNM).
Etymology. The name is given for the late Jim Wappes, collector of the holotype and generous friend.
Notes. Not included in the type series is a male from Brazil with somewhat deviant interstrial ridges.
