Conioscypha tenebrosa N.G. Liu, K.D. Hyde & J.K. Liu, Phytotaxa View in CoL 413: 165 (2019) ( FIGURE 2 View FIGURE 2 )
Index Fungorum number: IF556461; Facesoffungi number: FoF 06118
Saprobic on submerged wood. Sexual morph: undetermined. Asexual morph: Colonies on natural substrate forming black glistening patches, scattered, effuse, gregarious, black. Mycelium immersed, composed of branched, septate, smooth, hyaline hyphae. Conidiophores and conidiogenous cells not seen. Conidia subglobose to globose, dark brown to black, aseptate, 18–23 × 13–21 μm (= 20 × 18 μm, n = 30).
Cultural characteristics: —Conidia germinating on PDA medium within 24 h. Colonies on PDA reaching 0.5– 0.7 cm diam. after one month at 25°C, white at the margin, pale yellowish white in the center, velvety, with dense, tight mycelia on the surface, extending to 1–2 mm high, smooth, with entire margin, reverse light yellow.
Material examined: — CHINA. Yunnan Province: Pingbian, 22°98’99’’N, 103°69’74’’E, on dead submerged decaying wood of an unidentified plant in a small river, 10 May 2018, Wei Dong, PB5E ( MFLU 18–1184), living culture KUMCC 18–0062.
Notes: —The collection ( MFLU 18–1184) is identified as Conioscypha tenebrosa based on molecular analysis. There are 1 and 6 nucleotides differences in LSU and ITS sequences respectively between this collection and the holotype. Conioscypha tenebrosa has micronematous, mononematous conidiophores and phialidic, subcylindrical, hyaline, percurrently proliferating, cup-shaped conidiogenous cells with multi-collaretted apex ( Liu et al. 2019). Unfortunately, the unique conidiogenous cells were not observed in our collection. We suspect that this character can be only observed in the early stage of colonies. The differences between C. tenebrosa and other Conioscypha species have been stated in Liu et al. (2019).
