Diagnosis. Preepisternum 2 is entirely dark. The gonostylus bears a winding apical process ending in a blunt spine ( Figs 100, 103 View FIGURES 97 – 103 ), whereas the apical spine in the other two species is pointed.
Description. Male. Thorax. Scutum mainly dark. Anepisternum 2, preepisternum 2, anepimeron 2, laterotergite, and mediotergite entirely dark.
Wing. Fig. 25 View FIGURES 19 – 25 . Length 2.0 mm. A1 slightly curved.
Terminalia. Gonostylus with winding apical process ending in blunt spine, on dorsomesal margin 7 macrosetae in line plus 1 macroseta in some distance ( Fig. 103 View FIGURES 97 – 103 ). Apex of ejaculatory apodeme widened, with minute trichia, 2 pairs of mesolateral processes and barblike subbasal structure ( Fig. 101 View FIGURES 97 – 103 ). Parameres present as tusklike processes directed posterolaterally; parameral apodemes directed dorsolaterally ( Fig. 101 View FIGURES 97 – 103 ).
Female. Unknown.
Distribution and phenology. Endemic to NZ: NO (TO), SO (BR). Occurs in both the main islands, in North Island concurrently with W. dentata and W. elongata . Adults captured in podocarp and beech forests in summer.
Etymology. From Latin, truncatus, truncate, referring to the blunt structure on gonostylus apex.
Types. Holotype. Male*. New Zealand, North Island, Taupo, Pureora Forest, Waipapa Reserve, in podocarp forest, 570 m, 12 Jan. 1984, by Malaise trap, J. Hutcheson (in NZAC). Paratypes. 2 (1*) males, SO, BR, L. Daniells Track 7 km E Springs Junction, in forest of red beech Nothofagus fusca and silver beech N. menziesii , 24 Nov. 2001, by sweepnet, U. Kallweit & A. Stark (in SMTD).
