Haustorius mexicanus Ortiz et al., 2001

Haustorius mexicanus, Ortiz et al., 2001: 53 –59, figs. 1–3.

Diagnosis. Antenna 2, accessory flagellum with 3 articles; mandible incisor weakly trifid, with 5 accessory blades; mandibular palp, article 3 with 5 spines in comb row; maxilla 2 outer plate broad, slightly curved and rounded distally; maxilliped, outer plate broad, anterior angle obtuse with tooth-like spines on ¼ length of oral margin; pereopod 3 article 5 posterior lobe equal to length of anterior margin; pereopod 5 coxa oval, not compressed medially; pereopod 6, article 4 posterior margin gently sloped proximally, flat distally and parallel with anterior margin with 1–2 spines; pereopod 7, article 5 subtriangular with proximal and distal margins not parallel, posterior margin ¼ length of anterior, spines along ¼ length of distal margin; uropod 1, peduncle with 1 spine; telson cleft almost to base.

Range. Veracruz, Mexico.

Remarks. This species somewhat resembles Genus two species d ( Sweet 1996), which was also sampled from the state of Veracruz, except that in H. mexicanus the uropod 1 peduncle is largely bare and the coxa of pereopod 5 is oval, without distinct lobes. This could indicate that at least one species of Haustorius remains undescribed from the east coast of Mexico.
