Material studied. JAPAN, Saga Prefecture: 2 ♁♁, 2 ♀♀, Mt. Hobashiradake, Tara-chô , 600 m, 10.06.2021, FIT, leg. Mitsuyasu Nishida ( NSMT, cPJ) ; Nara Prefecture: 1 ♁, Nara City, Nara Park , 24.03.2006, leg. T. Lackner (cPJ) .
Distribution. Japan: Honshu, Kyushu.
Remarks. This species was described nearly 140 years ago based on a single male collected in Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu; here for the first time recorded from Honshu. It is a large-bodied Stenichnus , with adults slightly exceeding 2 mm in length, and can be identified by unique aedeagal structures (illustrated in Jałoszyński (2004): fig. 6 A–C).
