Stenichnus (Stenichnus) minipollens Jałoszyński View in CoL
( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 39–40 )
Stenichnus minipollens Jałoszyński, 2004: 170 View in CoL .
Material studied. JAPAN, Ehime Prefecture: 1 ♁, Matsuyama City, Komenono , 10.V.1996, S. Yoshimichi leg. ( EUMJ) ; Saga Prefecture: 1 ♁, Mt. Hobashiradake, Tara-chô , 600 m, 05.04.2021, FIT, leg. Mitsuyasu Nishida ( NSMT); 1 ♁, same data but 24.04.2021 (cPJ) .
Distribution. Japan: Kyushu, Shikoku, Hokkaido.
Remarks. This species was known to occur only on Hokkaido; the new findings reported here—on Shikoku and Kyushu—suggest that S. minipollens can also be expected to occur on Honshu. It is noteworthy that adults of both S. minipollens and S. pollens were collected by flight intercept traps in the same year on Mt. Hobashiradake in Saga Prefecture by Mr. Mitsuyasu Nishida.
Externally, this species is similar to S. pollens , except for a much smaller body of adults, which reaches only ~ 1.6 mm (over 2 mm in S. pollens ) ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 39–40 vs. 40). The most reliable characters to identify both species are those associated with the aedeagus (for S. minipollens illustrated in Jałoszyński (2004): fig. 6 D–F).
