Gulia geslini ( Basterot, 1825)

Cancellaria (Trigonostoma) spinifera Grateloup — Hölzl 1958: 255, pl. 21, fig. 10 [non Cancellaria spinifera Grateloup, 1832 ]. Gulia geslini ( Basterot, 1825) — Cahuzac et al., 2004: 236, figs 6H–N [cum syn.].

non Cancellaria Westiana Grat. —Hörnes 1854: 325, pl. 35, figs. 11–13 [= Solatia exwestiana ( Sacco, 1894) ].

Type material. The whereabouts of the types are unknown; Basterot (1825) described this species from the Early Miocene of Saucats or Léognan ( France) .

Discussion. Hölzl (1958) identified a poorly preserved shell from the Early Miocene of the North Alpine Foreland Basin as Cancellaria spinifera . The coarse sculpture and strongly scalate spire, however, place this specimen in Gulia geslini ( Basterot, 1825) , which is otherwise unknown from the Paratethys.

Distribution. This species is widespread during the Early Miocene from the North East Atlantic to the Paratethys.
