Discussion. Davoli (1982) and Janssen (1984a) highlighted the close relationship between this Paratethyan species and Cancellaria fusiformis Cantraine, 1835 , from the Miocene to Pliocene of the North Sea Basin, the North East Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. This species was placed into Pseudobabylonella by Brunetti et al. (2009), which also requires including the Paratethyan shell within that genus. Pseudobabylonella fusiformis differs constantly in its broader shell, the usually more convex whorls and the coarser sculpture. A further difference is the presence of lirae in the inner side of the outer lip of P. nysti , whereas the lip of P. fusiformis is smooth (cf. Landau et al. 2006). Finally, the protoconch of P. nysti is much higher and its sutures are less incised (cf. Fig. 4a in Landau et al. 2006).
Distribution. Known so far only from the early and middle Badenian of the Paratethys Sea. Paratethys —Badenian: Vienna Basin ( Czech Republic: Lissitz; Austria: Steinebrunn, Grinzing, Möllersdorf,
Perchtoldsdorf); Mecsek Mountains and Pannonian Basin ( Hungary: Szob); Transylvanian Basin ( Romania:
Lăpugiu de Sus, CoŞteiu de Sus).
