Description: Low protoconch consisting of 1.7 convex whorls with incised sutures. The early teleoconch bears four spiral cords intercalated by one secondary thread in the interspaces. The axial ribs are of comparable strength and are overridden by the spiral cords, forming a regular cancellate pattern. On later whorls, the number of primary spiral cords increases to six; the secondary ribs are adjoined by 2–3 densely spaced tertiary spiral threads. The entire shell surface, including the axial ribs, is covered by delicate and very dense growth lines, which cause a fine scabrose surface. The sutural shelf is concave, delimited by a raised spiral bulge along the shoulder and bears rather thin, ridge-like axial ribs. The moderately wide umbilicus is deep and bordered by a fasciole. The straight columella bears two oblique columellar folds and a third, much weaker but bipartite anterior one. Outer lip consists of a subhorizontal adapical portion corresponding to the inside of the sutural shelf, sharply angled at the shoulder, concave below, with two lirae on the adapical portion and nine below, the lirae starting a short distance from the edge and extending inwards a variable distance.

Discussion. The three columellar folds, the sculptured partietal wall of the aperture, the shouldered whorls and the moderately wide umbilicus agree well with representatives of the genus Scalptia as described by Verhecken (2011). Scalptia dertoparva ( Sacco, 1894) is very similar and differs mainly in its broader spire and last whorl. Its axial ribs are coarser and wider spaced and the spiral threads have sharp backs at the intersections with the axial ribs. The aperture is wider and has a strong parietal denticle and a much more prominent third columellar fold. This species is also reminiscent of Scalptia neugeboreni (Hörnes, 1856) in shape and sculpture. Differences are the conspicuous secondary sculpture of S. hidasensis between the blunt primary cords. The early spire whorls of S. hidasensis are convex and develop a set of primary and secondary spiral ribs, whereas S. neugeboreni lacks any secondary elements and its early whorls are strongly angular. Scalptia gradata (Hörnes, 1854) and Scalptia scrobiculata (Hörnes, 1854) are distinctly more slender and have a narrower umbilicus.

Distribution. An extremely rare species, which is known so far only by two shells from the Paratethys.

Paratethys —Badenian: Pannonian Basin ( Hungary: Hidas); Transylvanian Basin ( Romania: Bujtur).
