Type: ― AFRICA AUSTRALIS [ SOUTH AFRICA]. Terra capensis, regio occidentalis [Western Cape Prov.]: Van Rhynsdorp, 400 ft, 11 July 1896, Schlechter 8091 (holotype LE-00011850!; isotypes GRA-0000899-0!, K-000243993!, PRE-0375530-0!, Z-000092019! filed as S. aphylla ) .

Notes: ― V.P. Botschantzev described Salsola decussata View in CoL (using the same diagnosis and the same nomenclatural type!) in the same year in two different journals—first in Botanicheskii Zhurnal 59(1): 39 (January 1974; Botschantzev 1974b) and then in Novosti Sistematiki Vysshykh Rastenii 11: 171 (July 1974; Botschantzev 1974e). The earlier diagnosis has priority.

Distribution: ― South Africa (WC): endemic taxon of the Knersvlakte quartz patches
