Type (designated here): ― [ SOUTH AFRICA]. Promont. Bonae Spei [Cape of Good Hope]: Thunberg s.n. (lectotype S07-809 !; isolectotypes S07-808 !; S07-810 !; S-G-7074!) .

Notes: ― This is the type of the genus Caroxylon , considered a taxonomic synonym ( Botschantzev 1974a: 604; Setshogo 2005; Germishuizen et al. 2006; Klopper et al. 2006) of Salsola aphylla (reclassified by Tzvelev 1993 as Caroxylon aphyllum ).

Distribution: ― South Africa (WC): probably southern Namaqualand.
