Diagnosis and remarks. Mesocapnia variabilis males are macropterous (Fig. 3). The main epiproct sclerite has a distinct swollen bulb near midlength, narrowing distally and slightly wider before gradually tapering to a point ( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURES 1 – 2 , 14 View FIGURES 14 ). This species was previously reported from British Columbia, Yukon, Canada; Mongolia; northern Europe; and Russia ( Stewart & Oswood 2006, DeWalt et al. 2016).
