Diagnosis.

Female. Antenna (Fig. 1 G View Figure 1 ) with pedicel at most 2.0–2.4 × as long as wide; clava 2.4–2.5 × as long as wide. Head in dorsal view (Fig. 1 C View Figure 1 ) with shallow emargination between inner orbits and temple curved and rather strongly convergent; eye length 3.6–3.8 × temple length (Fig. 1 A View Figure 1 ); POL 0.3–0.6 × OOL (Fig. 1 C View Figure 1 ). Frenum smooth and shiny except finely carinate laterally (Fig. 1 E View Figure 1 ); metapleuron bare; petiole at least quadrate and usually slightly longer (1.3 ×) than wide (Fig. 1 E View Figure 1 ). Fore wing (Fig. 1 F View Figure 1 ) with broad speculum. Legs with at least metafemur in part darker than light-colored metatrochanter (Fig. 1 A View Figure 1 ). Gaster (Fig. 1 B View Figure 1 ) 1.4 × as long as wide; Gt 1 L usually shorter (0.9 ×) than Gt 2 L (Fig. 1 B View Figure 1 ).

Male. Color pattern similar to female except clava yellowish brown and legs entirely yellow (Fig. 1 I View Figure 1 ). Structure similar to female, with combined length of pedicel and flagellum 0.9 × head width; pedicel 2.1 × as long as wide; all funicle segments slightly transverse (Fig. 1 H View Figure 1 ) and with few mps; clava 2.4 × as long as wide. Petiole (Fig. 1 I View Figure 1 ) 1.4 × as long as wide. Gaster (Fig. 1 I, J View Figure 1 ) ovate, 1.8 × as long as wide; Gt 1 L almost equal to Gt 2 L.

Distribution.

China (Xinjiang) (new country record); Nearctic and Neotropical regions ( Noyes 2019).

Hosts.

Asaphes californicus is strictly a hyperparasitoid of aphids through Aphidiinae ( Hymenoptera : Braconidae ) and Aphelinidae ( Hymenoptera ) primary parasitoids ( Gibson and Vikberg 1998).

Comments.

Asaphes californicus was previously reported only from the Nearctic and Neotropical regions ( Gibson and Vikberg 1998). It is reported here from Xinjiang, China for the first time.
