Type species: Anthribus ancora Germar, 1824:177 , by orginal designation and monotypy.
Diagnosis (modified from Valentine 1960): RoStrum and poStmentum longitudinally carinate; eyeS entire, finely faceted; tranSverSe pronotal carina antebaSal; elytra produced anteriorly over baSe of pronotum and partially encloSing anterior-lateral margin of Scutellum, reSulting in a Scutellar notch that iS Shaped like an inverted omega.
Species group a (modified from Jordan 1937): Vertex red, derm of pronotum minutely coriaceouS, no reddiSh pubeScence on occiput or pronotum, elytra Striped with grey or brown, and pygidium with white or creamy lateral border or almoSt completely brown.
