Torrenticola xylurgella Gerecke & Di Sabatino, 1996
Material examined — ITALY, Sardinia, Comune di Muravera, It 2021-1d, Riu Ollastu, N of SS 125 between San Priamo and San Gregorio, stream, interstitial near riffle, 39.3552° N, 9.4739° E, 46 m asl., 8. Aug. 2021, leg. Goldschmidt 3♂ (sequenced; voucher IDs: CCDB 41824 View Materials E08, CCDB 41824 View Materials E10, CCDB 41824 View Materials E11), one ♂ ( CCDB 41824 View Materials E08) dissected and slide mounted ( RMNH) GoogleMaps .
Remarks — The specimens from Sardinia, used in this study for molecular analysis, morphologically match the description of Torrenticola xylurgella , a species endemic for Sardinia and Corsica ( Gerecke & Di Sabatino 1996). The new specimens from Sardinia form a distinct BIN (BOLD:AET4249). The p -distance between the latter BIN and its nearest neighbour, BOLD:ACP6165, which include a specimen from Borneo assigned to T. tjiwalensis (K. Viets, 1935) is estimated at 13.3%. Both species belong to the serratipalpis- species group, which includes a number of species from Africa, Asia and Central and South America (e.g., Wiles 1997, Goldschmidt 2007, Pešić & Smit 2014a, b), characterized by a laterally compressed and serrate, hyaline ventro-distal projection at P-2.
