Description. Holotype male. Size, 9.4 mm x 3.8 mm. Dorsal shining blackish-bronze with bronze foveae, more shining ventrally than above. Head shining bronze, becoming dark bronze on occiput, occiput with broad, smooth, grooved longitudinal carina; frons nearly flat with a slight median depression in the lower part, surface reticulated and clothed with rather long downward curving white setae; clypeus greenish-gold, broadly semicircularly rounded on each side of median notch; area between antennal sockets with maroon cast; many longer white setae below antennal socket and adjacent to eye; basal three antennomeres darker maroon-bronze than other antennomeres, and antennomeres 6 – 10 similar in size; darker maroon interrupted chevron just above middle of frons not reaching the eyes. Pronotum 1.8 times wider than long, widest just before middle, apex and base of pronotum similar in width, widest just anterior to middle, median longitudinal groove on posterior 3/5 with smooth raised area adjacent to depression. Scutellum triangular, black. Elytra wider than pronotum, surface uneven, lateral sides broadly rounded anteriorly, widest just behind middle, lateral margin arcuately serrate with serrulations largest apically, deep pit at base of each elytron and another shallow depression in humeral area. Costae indistinct and interrupted by three foveae on each elytron and indistinct transverse costae; elytra have more cross veins than C. mescalero . Underside: shining bronze. Prosternum with surface covered with long dense white setae and white pulverulence most apparent on pro- and mesoepisterna. Lateral margin of abdominal ventrites 2 to 5 with rather smooth irregular raised areas. Disc of abdomen rubbed smooth, irregularly punctate with a white seta in each puncture. Legs with profemur bronzegreen on anterior surface, and with large serrulate obtuse tooth. Mesofemora bronze with green tint, and metafemora bronze. Protibia green and strongly arcuate with 3 minute teeth on inner margin; all tarsi green. Male genitalia as in Fig. 14 View FIGURES 13 – 24 .

Allotype female. Size, 11.3 mm x 4.8 mm. Face nearly flat, bronze without maroon tint on lower face; reticulations each with white downward pointing seta, chevron above center of frons with arms wider laterally and indented by some punctures. First three antennomeres darker than others. Clypeal margin greenish-gold. Pronotum with median longitudinal groove not reaching either margin. Elytra posterior costae most distinct, other costae rather weak, interrupted by foveae. Serrulations rather small on lateral posterior margin. Underside: prosternum with long white setae, protibia and all tarsi greenish. Female pygidium ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 25 – 36 ) with deep pits on either side of median carina.

Host. Roy Morris and Edwin Donaldson reared insects from the root crowns of goldenrod, Chrysoma pauciflosculosa (Michx.) Greene , and some beetles in the Chrysobothris femorata species group emerged. Until this host record all species in this species group had been reared only from hardwood trees. Chrysoma pauciflosculosa (Michx.) grows on dry coastal dunes from North Carolina to Mississippi.

Comments. One male from Archibold Biology Station, Florida . is somewhat larger, has a brown frons with small green flecks, and reddish elytra foveae. This beetle is more reddish ventrally than other specimens available for study. Another beetle was collected by F. T. Hovore from Taylor Co., Florida while beating pine slash. The male from Sebring, Florida has a green tint to the clypeus border. Males range in size from 7.2 – 10.2 mm long, 3.2 – 4.6 mm wide; Females 10.2 – 11.3 mm long, 4.8 – 5.0 mm wide.
