Description. Size, 13.2 mm x 5.9 mm. Shining blackish-bronze dorsally with foveae brighter bronze, more shining ventrally than above. Head greenish-gold becoming dark bronze on occiput; occiput with broad, smooth, grooved longitudinal carina; frons nearly flat, surface reticulated on upper frons and clothed with short downward curving white setae; clypeus broadly semicircularly rounded on each side of median notch; antennal socket with dorsal bronze costa becoming broader laterally; many longer white setae below antennal socket and eye; basal eight antennomeres greenish-gold with apical antennomeres reddish-bronze, decreasing in size from 4th to 11th. Pronotum 1.7 times wider than long, widest at anterior 1/6, sides sloping slightly from anterior to posterior; narrowest at base, disc slightly concave at middle, smooth irregular elevated smooth areas on each side of depression. Scutellum smooth, triangular and black. Elytra much wider than pronotum, lateral sides broadly rounded anteriorly, subparallel to widest just behind middle, lateral margin arcuately serrulate with serrulations largest on apical half; with deep pit at base of each elytron and surface with irregular longitudinal, smooth costae connected to one another by small, irregular, smooth costae, and interrupted by irregular densely punctured depressed areas; sutural costa quite distinct from near base to apex, transverse foveae shallow, distinct, finely punctate, and appear bronzy-gold; anterior foveae divided by 2nd costae suture, posterior lateral foveae somewhat 'coma' shaped and separated from median foveae by carina; foveae arranged in a somewhat indistinct circular pattern. Underside shiny bronze, bluish-green on posterior margin of abdominal ventrites, laterally bluish-black on irregular raised areas; disc of abdomen rubbed smooth; irregularly punctate with a rather long white semierect setae in each puncture, lateral edges of abdominal ventrites 2, 3, and 4 with bluish-black, irregular, elevated, lateral callosities. Last visible ventrite emarginate at apex with lateral margin coarsely serrulate. Prosternum with bronze surface covered with rather long dense white setae and tomentose most apparent on pro- and mesoepisterna. Legs with profemur bright green on anterior surface, and with a large serrulate obtuse tooth; pro- and mesofemora greenish-bronze, metafemur bronze; tibia green and strongly arcuate with small teeth on inner margin; tarsi all green. Protibia with 8 small teeth and mesotibia also with very small teeth on inner margin. Male genitalia as in Fig. 23 View FIGURES 13 – 24 ; parameres unequal in length and lateral spines not visible from above.

Allotype female. Size, 13.1 mm x 5.0 mm. Frons bronze, punctures larger below an irregular raised chevron than above it, chevron above middle of frons, some irregular areas between chevron and eyes; clypeal margin bronzy-black. Pronotum with indistinct transverse ridges, ending laterally in irregular raised areas. Underside: prosternum with long white setae laterally; tibiae reddish; tarsi green. Female pygidium ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 25 – 36 ) deep depressions on either side of carina and anterior portion of lateral margins very shallow.. Males: 11.0 – 12.4 mm long, 4.2 – 5.3 mm wide; Females: 10.3 – 16.1 mm long, 4.4 – 6.0 mm wide.

Hosts. This species is relatively common in spring on recently cut Celtis laevigata Willd. , and emerged in Texas from this host at College Station, April 1964, S. G. Wellso and Bentsen Rio Grande Valley St. Pk., April 1986 (wood collected 10-X-85), T. C. MacRae. One male from Celtis spp. Arizona, Pima Co., Santa Rita Mts, Madera Cyn vic. Proctor Rd, elev. 4450’ wood collected 7-VIII-98 emerged 18-31-VII-99, T. C. MacRae. Six males were reared from C reticulata Torr. (2ɗɗ labeled C. occidentalis ) and another male labeled Celtis spp. also from Arizona, and 3ɗɗ were reared from Cercis canadensis Linnaeus , at College Station, Texas 7-VI-64, S. G. Wellso. A pair emerged from Pithecellobium ebano (Berl.) Muller {= P. flexicaule (Benth.) Coult. } at Lake Corpus Christi in San Patricio County, Texas 1978 (F. Hovore).

Comments. Two specimens of a predatory wasp, Cerceris fumipennis Say , were captured each with a specimen of C. caddo on 25-V-2001, at Bastrop, Texas by Stan Wellso.

The posterolateral elytral foveae are usually somewhat coma shaped. Some males have two small irregular gold callosites on frons and closer to middle than eyes, and some males from Arizona have the clypeal margin gold rather than green. Three males from Bastrop, Texas have the frons and the forward facing surface of the profemora more orange-green than brilliant green. The frons color is somewhat similar to the frons color of some atypical specimens of C. viridiceps . Some Florida specimens have the frons much lighter in color and similar to the frons color of C. rugosiceps . This species was present on Celtis laevigata in Bastrop, Texas with Agrilus lecontei celticola Fisher , A. macer LeConte , Chrysobothris analis LeConte , and Texania fulleri (Horn) .
