Type material. CHINA, Hubei: Holotype ♂, Pingbaying, Xianfeng, 1280 m, 21.VII.1999, leg. HH Li et al., slide No. SH 20202.

Diagnosis. The new species is similar to N. japonica Stringer 1930 and N. spinatibaltea sp. nov. in the forewing pattern. It can be distinguished from N. japonica by the forewing having a black speckle at the base of Sc, in the male genitalia by the tegumen without a median ridge, the vinculum slightly produced posteromedially and the phallus with a belt of short spines and a banded process near the apex. In N. japonica , the forewing lacks a black speckle; in the male genitalia, the tegumen has a distinct median ridge, the vinculum is not produced posteromedially, and the phallus has neither a belt of short spines nor a process. It can be further distinguished from N. spinatibaltea by the forewing with a silvery gray streak along the anterior margin of the cell, in the male genitalia by having a triangular uncus, and a phallus with denticles. In N. spinatibaltea , the forewing has a black line along the anterior margin of the cell; in the male genitalia, the uncus is dome-shaped, and the phallus lacks denticles.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1‒6 ). Male wingspan 23.0 mm.

Head: Vertex yellow; frons purplish brown. Eye interocular index 0.60. Proboscis dark brown. Labial palpus 1.2 × vertical eye diameter; first and second palpomeres yellow, mixed with black hairs; third palpomere black.Antenna 3.0 × length of forewing; scape purplish brown; flagellum grayish brown except dark brown in basal 1/5.

Thorax: Mesonotum golden yellow except purple laterally; tegula golden yellow. Forewing ground color brownish yellow, mixed with golden yellow scales in distal 1/4; black rectangular speckle at base of Sc; four silvery gray streaks edged with black scales: first streak from base to near middle along costal margin, with golden luster, second streak from basal 2/5 to 4/5 of cell along anterior margin, third streak from base to 4/5 of cell along posterior margin, fourth streak from near base to beyond 2/5 of wing along 1A+2A; three black lines: first line from beyond middle to distal 1/4 of cell, second line from near base to 2/5 of wing along CuP, third line from base to 2/3 along dorsum; inner and outer fasciae silvery gray, inner fascia slightly curved outward, outer fascia straight, extending outward anteriorly, medial fascia yellow, edged with black scales, slightly curved outward at posterior 2/5; brownish yellow fascia from near distal 1/4 of costal margin to beyond tornus, its outer margin serrate and edged with black scales; black stripes of unequal length from beyond brownish yellow fascia to near termen along veins M 1 to posterior corner of termen; dense black scales from distal 1/4 to apex between costal margin and R 5, silvery speckle at distal 1/4 of wing between R 5 and M 1; fringe dark brown. Hindwing grayish brown except light yellow between costal margin and Rs; fringe brown. Foreleg yellow ventrally except tibia purplish brown apically, purplish brown dorsally except tibia purplish blue; midleg yellow except tibia purplish brown dorsally; hindleg yellow except tibia bronzy apically. Epiphysis purplish bronzy, at middle of tibia, reaching apex of tibia.

Abdomen: Dark brown.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 27‒32 ). Socius ovoid, length 1.84 × width. Tegumen without median ridge. Uncus triangular, slightly concave anteromedially. Valva separated basally, rounded at apex, straight on costal margin, slightly convex at basal 1/3 on ventral margin; sacculus rectangular, extending to basal 1/3 of ventral margin apically. Transtilla straight, with a large semicircular anterior emargination, forming digitate processes anterolaterally; median process spiniform, reaching middle of tegumen apically. Vinculum 2.8 × length of valva, rounded anteriorly, slightly produced posteromedially. Phallus same length as vinculum, swollen at base, narrowed preapically, with denticles from distal 1/4 to 1/6, with a belt of short spines and a banded process near apex; vesica with spines ( Fig. 28a View FIGURES 27‒32 ). Juxta 0.82 × length of phallus; lateral arm 0.19 × length of arrow head.

Female unknown.

Distribution. China (Hubei).

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin apic- and processus, referring to the banded process near apex of the phallus.
