Type species Spinalobus rodmani Webb by original designation.
Etymology
Spina = Latin, thorn; lobus = Latin, a rounded projection, lobe. This genus is name for the large spinous macrosetae on the ventral lobe on the male genitalia. This species is named in honor of Dr. James E. Rodman, Program Director, Systematic Biology and Biodiversity Inventories, National Science Foundation for his energy and dedication in developing the NSF PEET Program.
The characteristics of this genus are given in the description of Spinalobus rodmani . Species included: rodmani Webb.
In “The Genera of Nearctic Therevidae ” ( Irwin and Lyneborg 1981a), Spinalobus keys out to couplet 23. The following is a modification of that couplet.
