Comments and diagnosis

Austrostelis amapaensis is known only from two male specimens and it is the only species known from northern Brazil (Amapá) . This species is most similar to A. catamarcensis and A. zebrata , having ferruginous markings on head and mesosoma. It differs by a predominantly yellowish amber head; yellow scutellum; yellow band on T1 ; pale yellow band on T2 – T6 ; and disc of T3 with denser and shallower punctures than disc of T2 .

Variation. In the holotype the postocellar band extends through almost the entire gena, while in the paratype the band extends only halfway.

Type material examined

Holotype male, ‘ DZUP/025578 ’ ‘ Brasil, Amapá, Rio Cajari / Martins 0°34′S 52°18′W / 17. ix.2001, G. A. R. Melo,/ninho AP4’. One male paratype with the same data as holotype.

Distribution. BRAZIL: Amapá.
