Diagnosis. TL up to 800 mm. SG absent. Head slightly flattened. Small anterior tentacles, slightly behind and below nostrils, near margin of mouth, much closer to nostrils than corner of mouth, generally not visible from above. Eyes visible, in open orbit. Nostrils subtriangular, visible from above or not. Dentition in four series. Dorsal keel or fin present in posterior part of body. Marked sexual dimorphism in terminal region, females having narrower and more pointed terminus. Fetal gills dorsally attached to nuchal region. Vent disk subcircular, may be in depression surrounded by fleshy folds of skin. One species in Amazonian Brazil.
