Saprobic on substrate. Asexual morph: Colonies on PDA flat to slightly elevated in center, funiculose, pale yellow both forward and reverse, without pigment diffusing into the agar. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, mainly long solitary phialides, often basitonously branched. Phialides straight or slightly flexuous, 15–46 × 0.5–1
μm (x = 38 × 0.8 μm, n = 30), tapering at the apex. Conidia solitary, acrogenous, amerospores, fusiform, or ovoid, sometimes slightly curved and basally apiculate, aggregated in small slimy globose clusters, aseptate, hyaline, guttulate, smooth and thin-walled, heteropolar-bilatral, 2.5–3.0 × 1.2–2 μm (x = 2.8 × 1.5 μm, n = 50). Chlamydospores absent. Octahedral crystals undetermined.
Culture characteristics: Colonies on PDA slow-growing, reaching 20–25 mm in diameter in 10 days at 20 °C.
Material examined: CHINA. Jilin Province, JiAn City, WKT5 tomb, associated with‘white moldy spots’ on B01-6 coat, 30 August 2016. J.Z. Sun, living culture CGMCC 3.19017.
Notes: Acremonium camptosporum was described as a new species by producing orthotropic phialides, and small curved arranged in the slimy heads. (Gams 1971). Our isolate produces Acremonium -like conidiophores and conidia which resemble A. camptosporum ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ). Phylogenetically, it grouped A. camptosporum , together with the type stain with strong support (100 MLBS & 1.00 BYPP, Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). Although the conidia of our isolate (2.5–3.0 × 1.2–2 μm) are smaller than the type strain mentioned in Gams’s description (2.8–3.8 × 1.1–1.8 μm), based on our phenotypic and phylogenetic analyses, our isolate also represents A. camptosporum .
