below). Synetheres mexicanus: Alston, 1880: 170 (name combination). Coendou mexicanum: Miller and Rehn, 1901: 173 (name combination with misspelled epithet). Coendou mexicanus yucataniae Thomas, 1902b: 249 ; type locality “ Yucatan (probably near Izamal).” Coendou laenatus Thomas, 1903a: 381 ; type locality “Boquete, 5000 feet ” in Chiriquí province,
Panama. Coendou (Sphiggurus) laenatus: Tate, 1935: 307 (name combination). Coendou (Sphiggurus) mexicanus mexicanus: Tate, 1935: 307 (name combination). Coendou (Sphiggurus) mexicanus yucataniae: Tate, 1935: 307 (name combination).
