Taxonomic history. Uchida (1940b) transferred this species to Anilastus Förster, 1869 , and Townes et al. (1965) to Hyposoter Förster, 1869 . It is clearly a species of Hyposoter , and C. Morley’s suggestion that it might be Venturia canescens ( Gravenhorst, 1829) (‘? Nemeritis (the Ephestia sp.)’) is wide of the mark.
Current taxonomy. Hyposoter ventralis ( Walker, 1874) ( Ichneumonidae : Campopleginae ).

Label data. First label, ‘Type’ (round label, with red margin; printed); second label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./3.b.1427.’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third line handwriting); third label, ‘ Japan./Coll.F. Walker./ 1913–71.’ (square label; printed); fourth label, ‘262’ (square label; handwriting); fifth label, ‘ Sagaritis ?/ventralis’ (square label; handwriting); sixth label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./ Sagaritis /ventralis/ Walker 1874 ’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third to fifth lines handwriting); seventh label, ‘? Nemeritis (the Ephestia sp.)/Morley det. xii 1913 ’ (square label; ‘Morley det.’ printed and the remaining characters handwriting).
Condition. Fairly good; right antenna missing after pedicel, left antenna after 22nd flagellomere, fourth and fifth tarsomeres of right fore leg, second to fifth tarsomeres of left fore leg, right hind tarsus missing.
