Taxonomic history. The specific name ‘ irritator ’ is preoccupied by Ichneumon irritator Fabricius, 1775 , hence a replacement name, ‘ lissolaba ’, was proposed for Smith’s ‘ irritator ’ by Townes et al. (1965). Heinrich (1937) transferred this species to Melanichneumon , but Townes et al. (1965) to Vulgichneumon Heinrich, 1961 .

Current taxonomy. Primary homonym, valid name: Vulgichneumon lissolaba Townes, Momoi & Townes, 1965 ( Ichneumonidae : Ichneumoninae : Ichneumonini ).

Type status. Holotype.

Sex. Female.

Type locality. Hyôgo Prefecture, Honshû, Japan.

Label data. First label, ‘ Type /C.M.’ (round label, with red margin; first line printed and second line handwriting); second label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./3.b.257’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third line handwriting); third label, ‘ Japan./Hiogo’ (square label; first line printed and second line handwriting); fourth label, ‘74/16’

(round label; handwriting); fifth label, ‘ Ichneumon /irritator./ Type Smith’ (square label; handwriting).

Condition. Very good; but fifth tarsomere of right fore and middle legs, fourth and fifth tarsomeres of right hind leg, third to fifth tarsomeres of left hind leg lost.
