Coelogyne elegans (Schltr.) M.W.Chase & Schuit. , comb. nov.

Basionym: Dendrochilum elegans Schltr., Beibl. Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 104: 9 (1911).

Notes: This name somehow managed to get into databases as Coelogyne elegans Rchb. f., Flora 69: 561 (1886), but the plant being named in this Flora article is clearly Cypripedium elegans , a species from Tibet. Later in the Gardeners’ Chronicle (1887: i. 145), there is mention of “A new Cypripedium : C. elegans ” in a note following one on a species of Coelogyne from Moulmein, so the use of C. elegans might have been misconstrued as referring to a Coelogyne . The name is not formally in use in Coelogyne , and so its transfer is not precluded.
